Usually we have this in the form of --enable-libXXX for external libs. OpenSSL
and stuff doesn't follow this for reasons I do not know... maybe someone knows
if we have a real rule set or (more likely) it's just random.

Is there a >= version required?

These should be passed as -D_THING to the compiler, normally, no?

What is this and why is it with "" instead of <>? Google says it is a system header,
so "" is wrong.

This looks terribly wrong. Why is this needed?

At the very list this needs a comment to explain why.

Ditto.

Am I mistaken in thinking this code is pretty iffy when pthread_cancel is not available?

+4 ?

Why do variable names suddenly change from like_this jammedtogetherlikethis?

enum?

What is system data size, and can it be detected?

These duplicates are not acceptable.

Is this even a public header? Does libsrt not have real documentation?

Doesn't tell me about what unit the option is in. Same for most of the other
options. Bytes? Seconds? Great British Pounds?

> +static int srt_neterrno(void)

I know technically (void) is needed in C, but we don't do this in the codebase, AFAIK.

err = 0 is a dead store.

Does err even mean anything meaningful now? The return code
for this is mixing AVERROR codes and SRT_ error codes...

> +static int srt_network_wait_fd(int fd, int write)

Does this kind of fd passing work on Winows properly? I seem to
recall passing int fds around directly in Windows could be iffy.
Ignore this if I'm mis-remembering.

Pointless wrapper.

Dead stores.

Unchecked snprintf call. Port is a user option without a limit.

We're OK with not hard failing here?

New line.

Does the SRT API guarantee it'll fit in this struct?

Shouldn't all these ternary checks for user options be in a single place,
instead of all over the file? It's pretty messy.

Again no hard failing?

0 doesn't seem like it's a valid fd to close.

Erm, what?

Mixing the use of that silly wrapper and av_log. Just use av_log everywhere.

Why are internal functions getting doxygen style comments? Same for other
parts.

256 is super arbitrary, no?

Should check if port is negative or not, as per av_url_split doc.

Is it OK to call srt_neterrno() multiple times like this?

These can and will differ due to subsequent calls. Is that intended, or do
you want them to be the same?

Should these really be asserts?

You should not be defining functions using the srt_ namespaces, considering
this is the namespace of libsrt, which you are using!

Like I said before, all user options should be validated in one place. This is gross.

Why even have a goto fail? Just return.

srt_ namespace abuse. Same of others.

buf for what? Why is it 256?

If I'm reading this right, you're setting what's supposed to be a user option?

That seems... bad. Same for otehr instances.

Why is this runtime checked?

Missing port < 0 check.

Should be done before pushing, I suppose?

These logs mean absolutely nothing to the user. Return an error, or log a real
user-understandable sentence, not a function call name and nothing else.

Same for all other places this occurs.

Missing error check?

Can we provide an internal or external API to enable its use when available?

Pointless endif.

Has this patch been run under valgrind, on Windows, and with stuff like ASAN, etc.?
Some stuff here would even trigger compiler warnings normally.

Also, how much of this stuff is duplicated from the udp.c and pals?

compiled on Windows, but didn't run under valgrind or ASAN yet.

you're absolutely right - this patch is based on udp.c (actually I
initially copied udp.c and replaced bsd sockets to corresponding SRT
calls, with some additional modifications).

thanks for the review, I am going to correct all errors, as well as run
recommended tools.

sure, what do you suggest? use "libopensrt" or just "libsrt"? the second
one wasn't recommended, because it introduces confusion with subtitle
format library.

it's documented very briefly (few words for each parameter) in
srt/srt.h. I'll remove reference to private header.

this throws compiler warning (GCC 5.4.0):

sorry, I didn't get this one - there is only one such ternary check in
code (for localaddr).

this one is intentional - getaddrinfo may return multiple addresses
(e.g. IPv4 and IPv6), and if we can't open the first, we still can have
a chance with second and so one. if none is opened, then it will fail below.

my understanding is that protocols allows to set options as part of URL,
e.g. "udp://127.0.0.1:7777?reuse_socket=1" shall set reuse_socket option
as well. is it acceptable

this patch?

everything else is clear and all errors are valid and I am fixing them.

Just a small nit: you changed the name of the file (thanksà), but you
forgot to update the commit message.

Is it possible to deduplicate / share code with udp.c? It seems really iffy to
duplicate a large swath of code. For example, a bunch of my review comments may
also correspond to udp.c (in fact they may originate from udp.c).

Probably the former, but I have no real strong opinion on changing it.

That's a shame, but I suppose this isn't an FFmpeg problem.

Hmm, wasn't aware we used that warning by default. Fine to leave it as-is, if so.

No, that's fine. Thanks for the explanation.

I'm saying all user-provided options should be checked in a single place, during init,
rather than all over the place in the code, where they are used.

OK. Maybe a av_log debug or comment. Thanks for the explanation.

Sorry, I missed that; apologies. It's fine as-is.

So user options are overridden by URL params...?

It's kind of outside the scope of this patch, but I think an internal API
would be useful. I don't think implementing such an API is a requirement
for this patch, just a nice-to-have.

exactly. at least in case of udp and few other protocols. it's
documented https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-protocols.html#udp

The required syntax for an UDP URL is:
udp://hostname:port[?options]
options contains a list of &-separated options of the form key=val.

if it's something no longer desired/recommended for protocols, I can
remove it altogether.

that's true - 90% of your comments are for original udp.c code I didn't
touch.
I can try to decouple circular_buffer stuff out of udp.c and re-use it,
as well as few other smaller functions (like parse_source_list).
what would be recommended place for such protocol-shared code? some new
file in avformat or an existing file in avutil?

When you are copy-pasting code, you are not only copy-pasting features,
you are also copy-pasting bugs and maintenance burden. When a bug is
found in udp.c, or when a change is needed due to changes in other parts
of the code, it will require the same fix to be made in opensrt.c:
useless work duplication. Furthermore, since this feature is a protocol
that nobody uses (yet?) depending on a library that nobody has (not in
Debian AFAICS), there will be very little testing, so the bugs will not
be found, and will stay.

And since it is a network protocol, bugs are likely to be
security-relevant.

Therefore, this level of code duplication (that I had not noticed until
now, I has not looked at the code) is a big no.
